Ke Ala Hele Makalae

While the name might be a bit difficult to say for non-native Hawaiians, Ke Ala Hele Makalae is Kauai’s most popular walking, running, and carefree biking trails. Meaning “path that goes by the coast” in Hawaiian, Ke Ala Hele Makalae is approximately 7.3 miles of pavement running from Lydgate Park to Wailua Beach Park and Kapa’a to Ahihi Point. When finished, it will total over 17 miles, providing a long trail that offers the best views of the Kauai Coconut Coast. The trail is completely wheelchair and stroller accessible, making sure no one in the family is left behind for an adventure down this beautiful trail.

What to Expect

Ke Ala Hele Makalae really takes the word “multi-use” to the next level. Whether taking a stroll, learning about the history and culture of the garden island from the interpretive signs, enjoying the whales when they are visiting, quietly viewing the monk seals resting on the beach, or delighting in the spinner dolphins dancing in the water, your visit to Kauai will be even more memorable because of this nearby attraction.

Accessing the Trail

As a guest of Premier Kauai, your access can be just a few steps away from your rental! On the southern end is Lydgate Park, where you can find plenty of parking along with public restrooms. To access the northern most part of the trail, head over to Kealea Beach Park, where there is also plenty of parking and public restrooms.
